❓ DID GOOGLE JUST CHANGE THE AI GAME❓
Today at the Google I/O developer conference, the spotlight was on Gemini AI.
Why does this matter?
Google aims to make Gemini AI the trusted operating system for your daily life. While executing this vision will be challenging, Google is currently the only company capable of achieving it.
Imagine a powerful AI that can access all your photos, calendars, documents, spreadsheets, and emails at the system level. While privacy concerns will undoubtedly arise, this AI could sift through all your data to answer any query or assist with any project.
So, who else can compete in this space?
Right now, no one.
Apple has the devices but lacks the AI — at least for now. It also relies on Google for search.
Microsoft has access to AI through its partnership with OpenAI and can tap into user data within its ecosystem, but it falls short in terms of device integration.
Meta has three billion users but doesn’t have the same level of data access or control over devices as Google.
No other company combines extensive device reach with deep data access like Google does.
OpenAI has consumer appeal, but its reach is much smaller than that of Google. The Google ecosystem is closed to it, at least for the deep level of integration planned for Gemini. It will be interesting to see if Apple decides to partner with OpenAI.
Keep an eye on this space.
